Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily
Last night, we saw the premiere of Sherlock Holmes, by LeGacy Productions and Chautauqua Playhouse. The witty and suspenseful play tells the adventure of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson solving the mystery of missing letters of an actress, who happens to be good friends with Oscar Wilde. The production is great for any age, but younger children may not find it as enjoyable. It is showing every...

Green Convention
On Tuesday, we (Valerie and Sydney) went to a convention full of vendors who offer “green” services. The Green California Summit and Exposition was in downtown Sacramento at the convention center. We learned so much about new things we can do to be eco-friendly. The convention covered everything: printing, fans, cars, house paint, office materials and so much more. Here’s where...

Now Showing at Nevada Theatre: The King and I
Thursday was opening night for CATS’ (Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra) production of The King and I. We saw it the second night and it was incredible! It had an excellent cast and the music was phenomenal with a live orchestra. Besides the great production, the theater is a great way to keep warm and dry in this rainy weather. Tickets range from $15-$30 and are available at the door or...

It's Mardi Gras Time!
We love Mardi Gras! If you have never been to Nevada City’s Mardi Gras parade, you are missing out. The Masquerade Ball is on Saturday, March 5, and the parade is on Sunday, March 6. Our favorite blogger/journalist, Jeff Pelline, wrote an excellent article about the parade and the great Cajun-style food that will be available (we love Ike’s Quarter Cafe!) to really get in the New...

Broad Street Inn's blog
To start off, to see the rest of this, click “View Post” below next to “Like” and “Comment.” I realized the other day that our posts from Tumblr (our blog) that connect to Facebook, don’t show the entire post. So if any of our old posts seem a little unfinished, they probably are. There is a blue “t” logo under the posts that are from our...

Presidents' Day Weekend
There’s a four-day weekend coming up! We still have rooms available for Presidents’ Day Weekend. The weather says it might be raining, but there is so much to do in Nevada City while staying dry. You can see The Tempest in the warm Nevada Theatre. If you want to go to the mountains with out getting snowed in, we are only 45 minutes to Boreal, Sugar Bowl, and many other snow parks and...

We just can't get enough of this weather!
It’s almost 70 degrees out right now! Most of the time, February is cold and rainy, not warm and sunny. We are not taking this lovely weather for granted; we just got back from a nice hike. You can walk to the trail head from the inn! As we did laundry today, we got to line-dry the linens for the first time in a couple months. We have also seen many cyclists taking advantage of this great...

Being Green
At Broad Street Inn, we are proud to offer green lodging. We do everything we can to conserve energy, reduce the amount of water we use, minimize waste, and so much more. Today, we are trying to get it out there that we are green. We have been applying to sites like www.localgreensierra.com and http://www.itsagreengreenworld.com/. If you know of any great “green” lodging sites, please...

Currently 61 degrees and sunny
We love, love, LOVE this beautiful weather we are having here in Nevada City! It has been in the high 50s to low 60s for over a week now. We had guests last week that went to the river! They didn’t go swimming but they still enjoyed sitting on the beach. As much as I love this weather, we also could use a little more rain. Please come stay in Nevada City while the weather is still lovely!
